The reference and inspiration for my work comes from a lifelong fascination of the landscape. The paintings I do are not descriptive, but rather my interpretations and an expression of my vision of the world around me. Inspiration may come from the light, the color, shadows or composition and then proceeds to change in the process of painting. Instead of describing the details I want to engage the viewer into interpreting their own associations and connections of place and experience with the painting. In this expressive way of describing the landscape my work straddles the edge of abstraction with a connection to the land and place. Color always comes into play in my work as it is reinterpreted to express the drama and different emotions the landscape portrays. As an artist I am constantly challenged and inspired by the landscape around us and the endless ways in which to paint it.
